Daughter expects the extremes of our summer weather to carry into fall with the heat and bluster of political rhetoric. Stay tuned. A great way to get over a broken relationship is to do one thing you always wanted to, but couldn't because you were tied down. Celebrate your independence, even if you never wanted it in the first place. -- L. KLEMCYZK. Alexandria nail technician, Tomiko Bozechi says that "Men usually have much nicer and softer feet than women because they wear flat shoes. Women wear high heels which cause corns and calluses." To say nothing about aches and pains. A male supervisor at Publix Super Markets, Inc., Florida's largest private employer, told Darlene Sarmiento that "Women are incapable of working in a supervisory position." and he added "Women are good for having sex and that's about it." A class action suit is in the works. 45,000 women work for Publix. 20% of women over 65 receive public or private pension income whether based on their own work or their spouse's. The average income for those who do get a pension is $5,874 annually -- half of what men get. Note that the following "family value" Republicans have been divorced and remarried: Robert Dole, Phil Gramm, Newt Gingrich, Pete Wilson. "Family values" seems to be a relative concept. A new organization -- The National Network for African American Women and the Law -- has been started. As Barbara Judkins-Thomas says, "A battle cry has been sounded for African American Women. We must renew our commitment to ensure justice in every aspect of our lives." Daughter says right on! A Colorado study of the ABA Commission on Women has found that new women lawyers earn 15% less, and older women lawyers earn 25% less than their male counterparts. No More Frogs to Kiss, a new book about empowering girls economically offers tips like hosting an economic film festival with movies such as "9 to 5" and "Working Girl." Another idea is taking a girl to a Grateful Dead concert for a music economics lesson about the business of big money performances. "Sisters don't want no weak, wimpish, nerdy man." -- Evangelist Manuel Scott. "When I conceived Barbie, I believed it was important to a little girl's self esteem to play with a doll that has breasts." -- M. G. Lord, creator of Barbie. Daughter can only imagine the version that would improve a boy's self esteem. Anglican Bishop, Richard Hallaway said "God knew when he made us that we needed promiscuous genes to sow our seeds." He also suggested that legalizing drugs and prostitution could help curb the spread of AIDS. 16 year old Amanda Zeiger says "Sexism is acceptable in class. Teachers who wouldn't say anything racist make comments about women. One said, 'Men are better drivers and its a proven fact.'" She and many other young women feel school is a hostile environment. Daughter has noticed that so much legislation, state or federal, whatever its original purpose seems to deteriorate upon implementation to the law of unintended consequences. She is pleased that Virginians passed up the opportunity to send a pre-indicted candidate to the U.S. Senate. North went south. FairTest, an advocacy group says the new "improved" SAT test remains biased against women. Men still score 43 points higher on the average. Lt. Cdr. Kenneth A Caikhuff, a 13 year Navy veteran and USNA graduate was accused of failure to support and carry out Pentagon policy. He said, "I think the Bible clearly teaches that we should not subject women to violence." Daughter thinks he should repay his USNA tuition since he took the place of a qualified student. Congressional lobbyist, Ruth Carr: "If you trace the votes in the House against family planning and choice, it is all going backward. That men think they know better is outrageous. Women put up with it, and then they vote for those old goats." The uncivil discourse award goes to a caller to the Oliver North radio show who called Hillary Rodham Clinton BIMBO ONE. | |
